Commitment to Sustainability
Catering by Design is committed to saving our planet and we employ procedures to make a difference in our catering and restaurant operations. In keeping with that theme, Catering by Design staff are trained in what is compostable and how to compost our waste. With this training, we are able to compost any food that is leftover and not appropriate to donate to a food shelter.
Our Green Initiatives
- Compost all compostable items
- Recycle all recyclable items
- All paper products are 100% compostable
- Our prepackaged beverages are in aluminum containers instead of plastic or glass, including water bottles
- Use recyclable bags whenever possible
- We recycle our oil for biofuel
- Only use gas powered equipment when necessary
- Use of environmentally friendly cleaners whenever possible
- Source locally whenever possible to cut down on emissions due to transportation
- Our cabinetry has been selected using green materials
- All communications are electronic based to alleviate paper waste
- Our staff car pool whenever possible
- We offer meatless options, not only for our vegetarian friends, but also to be sustainable
- Energy efficient lights are used in our warehouse, offices & commissary
- Motion sensor lights are used in our offices and bathrooms
- We donate food products to We Don’t Waste.Org
- We use ‘ugly’ produce in soups and sauces
- We use LED lighting
- Water efficient spray heads
- Low-flow water on our hand sinks
